The period from 1500 to 1899, (16^th -20^th century) is fundamental in the history of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. Particularly, the period is fundamental for social formations on the region since most of the inhabitants of the region coalesced during these four centuries into bigger social, economic, religious, cultural and political aggregates that make up the Ethiopian people and the people of the Horn today. In particular, the various ethnic and linguistic communities of present-day Horn of Africa with their colorful culture and social life are the products of this period. Politically, two processes of state building and centralization of political authority characterized the period. This was also the period of long distance trade including the slave trade that connected the region with its surroundings and the outside world. Hence, the proposed special issue opens the platform for researchers that do significant researches to answer important questions about the region and display their findings to the scientific community and the public.
