About This Special Issue
The special issue “sustainable urban and peri-urban farming” aims at publishing innovative researches on understanding current farming practices and their sustainability in urban and peri-urban areas. It is open to researches based on on-farm investigations as well as those conducted in controlled situations. Approaches combining socio-economy and agronomy are particularly welcome. The issue seeks specifically to i) analyse the diversity of crop and cropping systems in urban and peri-urban farms in relation to famers socio-economic status, ii) provide better understanding on nutrient vertical and horizontal fluxes under various strategies of soil fertility management, iii) analyse the effects of urban farming on soil physic and soil biology, iv) highlight the risk related to human and food contamination by pathogen and environmental pollution due to the use of pesticides, high rate of fertilization and hazardous compounds, v)develop good discussions and suggest solutions regarding the management of solid and liquid waste and water resources in urban and peri-urban areas.
