About This Special Issue
Renewable energy is a type of energy that can be replenished. Some of the main types of renewable energy are wind, solar, and biomass and so on. Renewable energy is a very important form of energy because it is a great alternative to other forms of energy that are not replenished. Climate change and the need to manage diminishing fossil fuel reserves are, today, two of the biggest challenges facing the planet. In order to secure the future for ourselves and generations to follow, it is widely accepted that we must act now to reduce energy consumption and substantially cut greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. World leaders have resolved to tackle global warming by signing the Kyoto Protocol, an international treaty committing signatory countries to reduce their emissions of carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases from 1990 levels. We invite overview and original papers describing current and expected challenges along with potential solutions for renewable energy systems: design, modeling, control and characterization. Both experimental and theoretical papers are welcome.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

1. Solar energy.
2. Smart grid.
3. Fuel cells.
4. Hydrogen energy.
5. Wind energy.
6. Geothermal energy.
7. Wave, tidal and hydropower energy.
8. Nuclear energy.
9. Biomass, bioenergy, biofuels.
10. Energy production from fossil fuels.
11. Energy transmission, distribution and storage systems.
12. Energy saving and sustainability.
13. Artificial intelligent.
14. Control.
15. Optimization.
