About This Special Issue
The working group of diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal tumors (TME) is located in the organizational structure of the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology (INOR) as part of the Peripheral Tumor Service that deals with skin, bone tumors and the soft parts. The INOR's mission is to be the leading center of the oncology specialty of the country, and as a unit of science and technology to carry out cancer research as well as to be the leader in the assimilation of cutting-edge technologies and is also responsible for the formation and training of the human resources necessary for the specialty.
In this context, the TME group develops an integral work with the fundamental objectives of the introduction and expansion in the country of novel techniques in this field, which include the different types of hemipelvectomies, conservative surgeries for soft tissue sarcomas with the use of vascular endoprothesis in cases that warrant it, the development of conservative techniques for bone tumors with the use of autologous and heterologous grafts, as well as the use of bone endoprothesis of various types and locations, always in close interrelation with other related therapeutic weapons such as Chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
The teaching development is closely linked to the assistance work for which residents of the specialty of oncology, orthopedics and general surgery rotate for our service, regardless of a Diploma in this subspecialty lasting one year, culminating in a thesis of completion of the diploma.

The TME group is also characterized by an important participation in national and international scientific-technical events as well as courses and training related to its objectives with an important link with the rest of the country.
