Man has depended upon plants for food and medicine for millennia. A significant portion of world population depends upon plant derived medicines. The tea plant, the cocoa tree, the coffee plant, the apple tree among a host of other food and medicinal plants, along with others whose existence and value have been lost in a translation to modern society have impacted humankind immensely. This special issue will zero on medicinal value of food plants in calling upon folkloric tendencies that ushered these plants into man's menu based on positive experiences derived from their consumption. We seek phytochemicals in these plants, their antimicrobial behavior, anticancer properties, nutritional/anti-nutritional properties, antioxidant behavior, toxicity studies, effect on hematological parameters, isolation and Structural elucidation of these Medicinal Principles etc. We hope to eventually explore chemotaxonomic relationships between medicinal food plants and those hitherto unexplored. Original research papers are therefore solicited for this important area of research.
