About This Special Issue
The economic and social development of a country is directly related to a good transportation system. Investments in road networks have a direct impact at the macro and microeconomic levels on the productivity of a region.
One of the most common problems in pavements are fissures or other types of faults on the surface, which appear to be invisible in early stages, but can develop into severe defects causing great costs in terms of time, money and work.
The advance in the science of materials and the innovation in its application make the geosynthetic materials continue in continuous development, being used as reinforcement in the pavements, working in collaboration with the same, minimizing the formation and development of defects caused by the effect of the transit and / or environmental conditions, which generate a progressive deformation of the structure.
By means of characterization tests and models of solicitation of geosynthetic materials, the properties of them and the benefits of their use in pavement designs are known.
Considering the deterioration of a pavement, one must look for the necessary tools in order to represent the real conditions of solicitation and achieve, through technological development, the implementation of materials that in ideal combinations allow recovering and strengthening a deterioration produced.
That is why the study of geosynthetic materials, in the field of engineering, has transcendence and growing popularity in developing countries seeking technical, economic and environmental solutions precise and concrete.
