Abstract: Phantastes: A Faerie Romance for Men and Women, was one of the most famous works written by George McDonald. Many scholars doubted whether it had a consistent theme. In fact, by looking at the story structure of the novel, we find that, in the design of the plot, the author consciously compared it with the Bible, such as Adam committing original sin for self-love, David maintaining social order against Goliath, and Jesus resurrecting after dying for human sacrifice. They were used to show that one man should abandon his love for himself and for society and rise to the love of God. In "Phantastes: A Faerie Romance for Men and Women", McDonald explored the love for individuals in the violation of the prohibition, explored the love for others in the maintenance of secular order, then thought human should pursue the love of God in the negation of the material individual secular. McDonald was a priest and thought the theology should train people to be a perfect children of God, MacDonald agreed with Calvin's Predestination theory that, it was God who sought man, not man who sought God on his own initiative. Suffering in adversity was also a way for people to understand and deepen their faith. He combined the pastor's pastoral and the writer's writing, and expressed his views on how to seek God in his works. Therefore, this novel, not only is regarded as a fantasy novel from literature, also expresses the process of personal spiritual Purification from religion.

A Study of the Truth, Goodness and Beauty in Alai’s Novel Fairy Ring

Abstract: Truth, goodness and beauty is an eternal theme of literary creation and research. By focusing on people, literature represents the “true” times and shows the “good” spirit and values of the times through certain artistic forms of “beauty”. First, this paper introduces what truth, goodness andd beauty are in literature. Then the novel Fairy Ring focusing on Alai’s pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty is analyzed in detail. The creation of the novel is based on objective truth: the and authentic geography, animals and plants are the real, an inexhaustible source, a prototype inspiration for literary creation, as the fictional but reasonable plot; and the people are an important source of literary and artistic creation, the exaltation of people’s good nature. The creation of the novel has humanistic concern: scourging evil and promoting goodness, advocating “goodness” when it praises beautiful things with great enthusiasm or punishes ugly things, demonstrating a strong tendency towards goodness, shining with strong humanistic care. The creation of the novel is rich in artistic forms: beauty is one of the important criteria for measuring literariness, for example the destructive literary language; the highly aesthetic and infectious illustrations, to attract readers’ attention into the reading context through points, lines, surfaces, colors, composition, and other means; the meaningful left blank, to give people endless imagination and create a profound artistic conception and the inner and outer harmony between literary characters and nature, to unify beauty and goodness. In a nutshell, Alai has constructed a spiritual home shared by all nationalities in the novel Fairy Ring.

Dynamics of Social Aberrations in Yogmaya’s Sarvartha Yogavani

Abstract: Yogamaya Neupane is a progressive poet, a spiritual leader, a social reformer, a Nirguna Bhakti saint and a feminist revolutionary in Nepal. She wrote numerous lyrical verses referring to different social evils of her time. This article attempts to explore the dynamics of social aberrations inherent in her lyrical verses –SarvarthaYogavani. Neupane launches her crusade against different social evils like corruption, deception, racial injustice, caste discrimination, fraudulent activities, misuse of measurement etc. through her sacred verses. Her verses echo the voices of the voiceless people. She becomes the messiah of contemporary society. Through her verses, she attacks money lenders, corrupt Bhramins, Rana rulers, sellers of crops and Rudrakshya, job holders, judges etc. for their anomalies. She adopts the Bhakti path to launch her social protest against different social aberrations prevalent at that time. The very dynamics of social anomalies of contemporary society are reflected in Yogavani through which she attacks the different social agents against their injustice. The study employs Kabir’s Theory of Nirguna bhakti as a theoretical tool to launch the social protest against injustice and anomalies. Nirguna Bhakti refers to devotion to the formless God- singular God inherent in all living species. It holds the view that since similar God exists in all human beings, discriminations among any human beings on the ground of social constructs like gender, caste or race etc. are baseless and pointless. Yogmaya following the same ground attacks other social evils like corruption, deception etc. prevalent in contemporary society. Through her lyrical verses, she raises the consciousness of people and evil agents for their change. No society can attain social change itself until and unless human minds are changed. Therefore, Yogmaya like Kabir Saint attempts to rock the human consciousness for social revolution. She follows the protocols of peace and non-violence to suit her purpose. She inspires her followers not to resort to violent activities that disrupt the peace and harmony of the society. She herself involves in uniting the people of all castes in one place, and has them recite bhajans together. The principles of social solidarity and fraternity are automatically established fostering the protest against different social evils prevalent in society.
