Abstract

As the only region connected by sea and land between China and ASEAN countries, Guangxi has an unignorable role in deepening the economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. With the transfer of the global electronics industry, Guangxi is gradually becoming an important node of electronics industry in Southeast Asia. However, most of the existing studies on the electronic information industry between China and ASEAN countries focus on the national level, and there is still a lack of systematic study and empirical analysis on the structural characteristics and influencing factors of electronic trade between Guangxi and ASEAN countries. This paper constructs a trade network based on the bilateral trade data of electronic information products between Guangxi and ASEAN countries in 11 regions from 2002 to 2022. It analyzes its network structure, evolution characteristics and influencing factors by using social network analysis, QAP regression. It is found that: the overall network structure is getting closer, the network density rises from 0.71 in 2002 to 0.98 in 2022, and while the clustering coefficient rises from 0.76 to 0.97 during the period, the average path length decreases from 1.19 to 1.0, and the characteristics of the network's small world are more and more obvious. The local network analysis reveals that the core-edged structural evolution tends to be stable, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines constitute the top three core nodes of the trade network, playing a key "bridge" role in the network. At the individual level, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines own a high centrality, and consistently occupying leading exporters. Guangxi's centrality in the trade network is significantly improved, and the strength of trade associations with network members is continuously enhanced. The overall network structure is significantly affected by the differences in foreign direct investment, geographic distance, technological differences, while cultural differences and differences in economic scale have limited explantory power. This study reveals the evolution of Guangxi's position and role mechanism in the regional electronic information trade pattern from the network perspective, which provides data support for further promoting Guangxi's integration into the China-ASEAN electronic industry chain and formulating differentiated regional cooperation policies.
