In this paper, the current state of art of optical fiber sensing technology is reviewed. The basics of operating principle are discussed in detailed and the various types of optical fiber sensors are classified. The performances, the limitations and a description of the technology used to fabricate the optical fiber sensors have presented. Also, the development of this technology and the expected application areas are briefly outlined.
