Abstract: The paper explores “Sydney School” genre analysis theory and its application in pedagogical contexts. It introduces the origin and early works of Systemic Functional Linguistics genre studies, its theoretical framework of modelling context as register, mapping culture as system of genres, as well as identification and classification of genres.
