Abstract: Employee retention is considered immensely important for the long-term health and success of organisations and to represent a source of competitive advantage as a strategic issue. This is due to the global competition for experienced and dedicated employees among businesses. The Global Access Savings and Loans Company Limited adopted job training and development as a human resource management programme to motivate its employees to remain working with the Company. The study assessed the impact of training and development programmes on retention of staff at the GASL Company Limited, Head Office Branch, Accra, Ghana. The study adopted a survey method. A total of 49 persons out of 50 respondents that made up the total staff of the organisation were used as units of analysis. The one (1) person opted out of the research by not responding to the questionnaire given to him. The research instrument used for the study was structured questionnaire. Descriptive percentage method was used to analyse the data. The study reveals that the employees generally had positive perception about the training and development programmes. Thus, they perceived the programmes are responsive to meeting their operational deficiencies. However, quite significant proportions of the employees were reluctant to continue working with the Company. The study recommends that more human resource management programmes should be implemented to complement the training and development programme so as to motivate the majority of the employees to commit their working career to the Company.

Abstract: Background: With the development of the times, more and more new technologies appear in people's lives, and the emergence of cell phones, computers and other electronic communication devices has made the communication between people more convenient and diversified. Electronic communication refers to a way of communication with electronic information technology as the carrier. In the workplace, the use of cell phones, computers and other electronic communication devices for work communication has become a common phenomenon. In previous studies, e-communication during non-working hours has a positive impact on employees' job performance and job satisfaction. Based on the positive impact of e-communication during non-working hours on job satisfaction, one would realize that e-communication during non-working hours also has a positive impact on harmonious work passion. However, there are few studies on the relationship between e-communication during non-working hours and harmonious work motivation. Moreover, some studies have shown that e-communication during non-working hours can trigger work-family conflict, and work-family conflict can have a negative impact on harmonious work passion. Objective: This study intends to investigate the effect of e-communication during non-working hours on harmonious work passion and the mediating role of work-family conflict in between. Methods: This study uses hierarchical regression analysis to analyze the theoretical hypotheses of this paper based on conservation of resource theory. Conclusion: e-communication during non-working has a significant negative impact on harmonious work passion, while work-family conflict plays a mediating role between the two.

Abstract: Work engagement is a vital force in the success of every organization. Having collectively involved and committed employees in the discharge of their functions improve organizational performance, enhances creativity, and strengthens relationships, consequently ensuring client satisfaction. This descriptive research aimed to determine and compare the employees’ work engagement levels before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. It sought to understand if this health crisis has changed their work engagement practices. It also explored if the employees’ levels of engagement varied when grouped according to the nature of their jobs. Data were collected through a survey with the entire population of employees of a private maritime institution in the Philippines for the academic years 2019-2020 and 2021-2022. The statistical analysis using the Mean, Standard Deviation, and t-Test of Independent Means revealed that, as a whole, the employees were very strongly engaged at work before and during the pandemic, and their levels of work engagement between these periods did not significantly differ. Administrative interventions in the form of technical, physical, moral, emotional, and financial support and well-managed employee engagement activities that could boost their mental and emotional wellness were recommended to mitigate the effect of a pandemic or crisis on employees’ engagement. The study recommends a follow-up investigation on employees’ engagement at work, considering other variables such as age, sex, tenure, and generational groupings. It also recommends a more objective assessment of employee work engagement with the list of criteria in harmony with the three pillars of the institution: instruction, research, and extension.

Abstract: With the advent of China's big data era and the deepening of the aging of the population, the problem of idle human resources for the elderly in China is prominent, and the research bottleneck of the development of elderly human resources needs to be broken. At present, China's elderly human resources development strategy is still stuck in the traditional program, and there is a gap in the development of elderly human resources empowered by science and technology. This paper aims to place the development of elderly human resources in the context of the great development of science and technology, learn from the excellent experience of foreign countries through the existing practice of elderly human resources development in developed countries, combine China's national conditions, and use science and technology to empower the development of elderly human resources to achieve the active social participation of the elderly group. Based on the theory of active aging and empowerment, this paper uses qualitative analysis, induction and comparative analysis to explore the current development of human resources empowered by science and technology in China. Through the study of the current social concepts, policies and regulations in the development of elderly human resources in China, this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for the effective development of elderly human resources in China based on international experience.
