Abstract: This paper is a result of the research conducted by the Media Communication and Social Movements Research Group (ComMov), from the São Paulo State University (Unesp), since 2015. It aims to provide a theoretical and conceptual understanding of the mediatized public sphere, focusing on the role of journalism amidst the influence of social media, algorithms, polarization, and democratic crisis in Brazil in the last decade. The study draws upon mediatization theories, the social representations articulated to the notion of the Habermasian public sphere, and network communication to analyze social phenomena observed in Brazil since 2013, a crucial year marked by conflicts and polarizations that continue to shape public discourse and the repositioning of journalism in the face of an evolving scenario. By acknowledging the complexity of the historical context, we propose a reflection on the communicational aspects within contemporary public sphere processes. Our argument revolves around the notion of an ongoing crisis within the modern societal framework, resulting in detrimental effects on democracy, media communication, and journalism. This crisis leads to the creation of a divided, less rational, and more emotionally-driven contemporary public sphere, heavily influenced by algorithmic logic. The present work aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of these issues and their implications.

Abstract: Purpose of the study is to examine the roles of ASNIKOM in preparing coffee farmers to be included in the chain schemed by This Side Up. Qualitative approach was used to identify problems faced by coffee farmers. For this purpose, in depth interview and FGD as well were used to collect information. Interview questions were made in structured and flexible ways. FGD was organized to focus on critical issues related to structural problems. Literature review was concentrated on structural problems and related concepts such as convertabilty, functionality of structure, knowledges and structuration. Field Schooling is an essential part of active approach to change ways of farming and processing produces for better quality. Findings: structural problems defined by farmers themselves in their own words. Most of them were related to the structural problems identified by Neilson and Schoone. Only about 5% of the problems have been solved through the use of active approach. Conclusions: ASNIKOM has become a mediating structure connecting farmers and consumers through the use of Field Schooling approach. Recommendations: Actors having played in quality improvement need to be included in policy and program developments. Collaboration between ASNIKOM and This Side Up in regenerating Robusta coffee need to be considered for policy development.

Abstract: Most recent reports present a bleak and gloomy picture of the state of human rights and democracy around the world. This is particularly true in Africa, where the renaissance of democratic revival in the 21st century is rapidly giving way to narratives of doom and gloom. Though Somaliland approved its constitution in 2001, established a multi-party political system, and held local council, presidential, and parliamentary elections in the first decade, there are some challenges hindering democratization processes, holding creditable elections, protecting human rights, and women’s political representation. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to assess the current status of Somaliland’s elections, human rights, and women’s political participation, it also reviews electoral challenges, human rights abuses, and gender-based violence that have been encountered and considers the prospects for the future. However, this article revealed that there is a poor legal framework, strong clan politics, and limitations on free media expression. Somaliland adopted laws and policies to protect human rights but faced implementation issues. In addition to that, opposition leaders and party members faced imprisonment and intimidation, whereas women’s’ political participation remained low. The paper therefore calls on Somaliland government to review the electoral laws to address gaps and ensure transparency, fairness, and inclusivity in the electoral process; take immediate measures to protect freedom of media expression; enforce existing laws and policies aimed at protecting human rights; and introduce gender quotas to increase women’s representation in all levels of government.

Abstract: Cigarette smoking among youth and young adolescents remains high, particularly in high schools and colleges. Smoking and smokeless tobacco usage at such a young age can be detrimental, resulting in lower academic performance and an increased chance of developing dreadful diseases and other fatal conditions. However, the prevalence of cigarette smoking and its associated characteristics among high school students in the country have not been studied precisely. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of smoking and the factors that influenced the behavior of students in the Tokha municipality of Kathmandu district, which is the most populous district in Nepal. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted using a standard, pre-tested questionnaire among the target population. The data was then entered and analyzed through SPSS. Descriptive statistics were used for data summarization. The significance level was set at p < 0.05. Bivariate and then multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess the magnitude of associations between dependent and independent variables. The prevalence was found to be among two-fifths of the respondents (20.6%). About 53% of them were 16 years of age or younger; 48.4% of them smoked because of peer pressure; and apparently 63.6% of students smoked with their friends only. Factors like gender, monthly expenditures, friend smoking status, increased price of cigarettes, and exposure to the anti-smoking campaign were statistically associated with the prevalence of cigarette smoking. The study revealed concerning prevalence rate of smoking. necessary plans, programs, and local policies should be made to address this issue.

Abstract: The conclusion of the 2020 US presidential election left open questions about the future of the Republican Party, with or without former president Donald Trump. His presence at the top of many 2024 GOP polls lends the impression of a man hard to separate from his party. I examine this linkage through the 2020 American National Election Study, looking specifically at feelings toward the GOP and GOP figures Donald Trump and Mike Pence and measures of trust and authoritarianism among Trump supporters, as well as open-ended responses on political parties. I find that Trump was a driving force in the 2020 election in a way that Joe Biden was not, and is difficult to disassociate from the Republican Party. The strongest Republican Party identifiers seem to like Trump more than the party itself. His supporters demonstrate distrust of both the news media and experts while believing that corruption declined under Trump. When asked in open-ended questions to talk about political parties, survey respondents were far more likely to mention Donald Trump when discussing party negatives than any other candidate in recent years. In sum, these analyses point to a future in which Trump will very much be a defining figure in the Republican Party.

Abstract: This article aims to understand the link between urbanization and land governance in the peri-urban area of Yamoussoukro. It analyzes the explanatory factors of the persistence of land conflicts in the peri-urban area of Yamoussoukro. The study was based on a methodology based on documentary research, observation of the field and an interview with the actors involved in land management (customary authorities, officials of the technical service of the Yamoussoukro town hall, the management regional office of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Urban Planning, economic operators). The results obtained reveal that today, with urbanization, issues have arisen around land in the peri-urban villages of Yamoussoukro. Land issues due to urban pressure mean that the governance of this resource is now at the heart of many disputes. The lot sharing process after subdivision is characterized by the frustration of certain social groups within the families. In peri-urban villages, the mode of management operated by the actors in charge of land resources divides family members. In view of these frustrations, everyone is now claiming their share of the land inheritance that is rightfully theirs. Faced with rising tensions, the authorities in charge of managing this resource are now struggling to assert themselves. Their ineffectiveness only amplifies emerging conflicts. In such an environment, these land conflicts are increasingly violent.

Abstract: This article analyzes the logic of youth support for the military coup d'état that occurred on September 30, 2022, in Burkina Faso. Constituting most of the population and considered as the spearhead of society, youth spontaneously mobilized to support the military who were trying to overthrow the military junta that had been in place for eight (8) months. The mobilization was aimed at preventing a possible counter-offensive by the junta, which had lost the nerve centers of power on the morning of October 1. This is since the youth, disappointed with the eight months of governance of the junta, had already begun to look for another way to return security to the country. They had placed in these soldiers the hope of reversing an increasingly degrading security situation, but also of restoring the principles of good governance, the foundations of which had been undermined by the governance of the Patriotic Movement for Safeguard and Restoration (MPSR) of Lieutenant-Colonel Damiba. The article shows that it is the disappointment of governance and the deterioration of the security situation that are the basis of the dynamics of mobilization of youth in favor of the coup. By mobilizing, young people have founded the hope that the authors of the coup d'état, who are young people of their generation, will manage to improve the security situation and allow the country to start again based on democratic governance.

Abstract: Today’s business world brings in many new signals for companies to focus on well-established marketing tactics to succeed. Sensory marketing is focused on business strategy, whereby the company essentially follows not only financial gains, but also takes into account the process and results of all activities in relation to strategic and atmospheric issues of a business. The main aim of this paper is to evaluate the inter-relationships among sensory marketing and non-financial performance of restaurants in Ghana. Also, the study investigated the mediating role of market culture and customer service skills between the sensory marketing and non-financial performance link. The primary data was collected through questionnaire survey. A total of 482 questionnaires were distributed in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, through a stratified sampling, of which only 369 questionnaires were usable for analysis (approximately 76% response rate). Out of the total of 369 respondents, 38 were restaurants staff, whiles 331 were customers. Mediating analysis was done using Andrew Hayes process to determine the level of the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. This paper provides evidences from an investigation conducted at the various restaurants in the Region. A total of six hypotheses were tested. Descriptive research was carried out to address the research objectives. The information gathered informed the design of the survey, whose statistical data was analysed using SPSS. Both structural equation modelling (SEM) and Analysis of Moment of Structures (AMOS 23.0) were used to analysed the data. The findings concluded that the sensory marketing variables are positively related to non-economic performance. The result also shows that market culture and customer service skills does not mediate the relationship between sensory marketing and non-economic performance. This result makes theoretical and practical contribution to marketing practitioners on strategic issues on how the approach improves business performance. This study will serve as useful reference document for future academic researchers who want to undertake similar study.

Abstract: A large number of research results show that a place's tourism image is an important factor affecting international tourists' choice of tourism destinations and their willingness to travel. In recent years, the Chinese government has launched a series of new tourism strategies to enhance and shape China's national tourism brand by launching a large number of tourism activities, thereby attracting domestic and foreign tourists to a certain extent. However, from the data point of view, the development of China's inbound tourism has gradually weakened in recent years, and the increase in the number of inbound tourists has stabilized, indicating that the current national tourism brand built by China has not yet exerted sufficient influence on a global scale. World-wide visibility is still low. Therefore, from the perspective of foreign tourists, it is very meaningful to explore the generation mechanism of China's national tourism image and cognitive form. From the perspective of the international tourists' urban tourism image of Haikou under social media, based on the existing literature, through the use of literature analysis, network mining and text analysis, this paper analyzes in detail the perception of Haikou by international tourists. City tourism image. And based on this, the city tourism image of Haikou City is studied in detail, and the city tourism image of Haikou City is explored from the perspective of international tourists. This paper mainly analyzes the consumption demand and behavior of international tourists in Haikou City, grasps the existing tourism advantages of urban tourism in Haikou City, and analyzes the reasons for the existing shortcomings such as low international influence, insufficient tourism brand characteristics and insufficient tourism facilities. And propose corresponding improvement suggestions. Abstract: Human resources are the most basic and important factor in the implementation of socio-economic development strategies in each country. The quality of human resources is affected by a total of factors, in which the role of an active learning society is especially important. Research clearly shows that, in essence, an active learning society is a society in which each person's learning becomes his/her own need, motivating each person to actively explore and learn at any time anywhere society creates the best conditions to access knowledge, become a digital citizen, a global learning citizen. Research results show that building a positive learning society is both an objective and an important solution to improve the quality of human resources in each country. The role of an active learning society is reflected in three basic aspects: creating a premise for a rapid increase in the number of human resources; promoting the strong development of the quality of human resources and creating a strong shift in the structure of human resources to meet the requirements of social development and international integration. On the basis of evidence on the role of active learning society on the quality of human resources in Vietnam, the study proposes a number of solutions: improving the effectiveness of propaganda, education, awareness raising, responsibility. responsibility of all levels, sectors, agencies, units and the whole society for lifelong learning; building a learning society as a breakthrough in the process of radical and comprehensive innovation in education and training; perfecting mechanisms and policies on building a learning society. In which, focusing on researching and proposing to develop a project of the Law on Lifelong Learning, step by step perfecting the evaluation criteria for building a learning society in the localities; promote digital transformation and application of information technology as a basis for promoting lifelong learning activities; with these solution orientations, we aim to build an active learning society to improve the quality of human resources to meet the requirements of fast and sustainable development in Vietnam today.
