Abstract: Probiotic bacteria with anti-inflammatory properties have the potential to be of therapeutic benefit in inflammatory bowel diseases. The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of feeding low-fat probiotic yogurt containing L. acidophilus and L. bulgaricus on acetic acid-induced inflammation in mouse colon. Inflammatory model that mimics various features of IBDs was induced by a single application of 100µl of 4.5% acetic acid in Swiss Albino mice. Mice were pretreated orally by 200µl yogurt containing both L. acidophilus and L. bulgaricus for 3 days before induction of inflammation and 200µl yogurt was given orally for a period of 7 days after acetic-acid induction. The body weight, food and water intakes, serum biomarkers, macroscopic and histopathological studies of colon tissues were performed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect. Combined administration of both strains prevented the damages of villous and crypts in colon epithelial cells and thus provides unique mucosal protective effects in experimental colitis. In conclusion, feeding low-fat probiotic yogurt containing L. acidophilus and L. bulgaricus prevented or ameliorated the inflammatory conditions that can be beneficial to prevent or lower risks of IBDs and its complications.Abstract: Probiotic bacteria with anti-inflammatory properties have the potential to be of therapeutic benefit in inflammatory bowel diseases. Abstract: Multi-environment trials have a significant role in selecting the best genotypes to be used at different locations. The study aimed to determine grain yield and stability of 15 bread wheat genotypes in Ethiopia using parametric stability method. Fifteen bread wheat genotypes were evaluated using RCBD with four replications at six locations in Ethiopia in 2017/18 main cropping season. Considering environment, grain yield of environments over genotypes ranged from 2.8 t ha-1 for Bekoji to 5.15 t ha-1 for Kulumsa. Grain yield of genotypes over environments ranged from 1.53 t ha-1 to 4.93 t ha-1. Among the genotypes with above-average mean grain yield (>3.8 t ha-1), ETBW8084 and Hidase were declared stable by all parametric stability parameters except by S2i and CV (%) while ETBW8427 was declared stable by all parametric stability parameters. These three genotypes ranked 6th, 3th and 4rd by mean grain yield and contributed only 4.5, 4.0 and 4.5% to SS of GxE interaction, respectively. Hence, they can be recommended for wide adaptation. The genotype ETBW8065 was also among the stable and high yielding genotypes contributing only 6.3% to GEI. ETBW8078, ETBW8311 and ETBW8459 were low yielding and stable genotypes contributing 1.2, 3.9 and 3.5% to GEI. ETBW9470, ETBW8070 and ETBW9037 were among the highest yielding genotypes ranking 1st, 2nd and 5th, respectively. However, they were declared unstable by most stability parameters except ETBW8070 which was declared stable by S2i, CV (%) and Pi stability models. Abstract: Cabbage is belongs to the family cruciferae and it is biennial crop with a very short stem supporting a mass of overlapping leaves to from a compact head. Ethiopia has a variety of vegetable crops grown in different agro- ecological zones by small farmers, mainly as a source of income and food. Commercial producers are also involved in the production, processing and marketing of vegetable. For this reason, it poses the most difficult problem in making fertilizer recommendations. Plant demand for nitrogen can be satisfied from a combination of soil and fertilizer to ensure optimum growth and yield of cabbage. The major essential plant nutrient nitrogen was found increasing in short supply in the soils. Nitrogen is required in much greater quantities than most other nutrients. It is an important component of proteins, enzymes and vitamins in plants, and is a central part of the essential photosynthetic molecules; chlorophyll. Plant demand for nitrogen can be satisfied from a combination of soil and fertilizer nitrogen to ensure optimum growth. Thus, it requires applying of appropriate rate of fertilizer for the enhanced cabbage productivity and sustainable yield. Many reviews on show that nitrogen application increases the total yield of cabbage also enhance. But this is possible as long as it is managed properly in terms of rate and time of application. Nitrogen levels have to be regulated to obtain high yield from cabbage.
