Abstract: Since biology is one of the basic courses which requires deep conceptual understanding, teaching it in the usual way \ has been faced with challenges. On the other hand, smart schooling is recommended as the best pattern for the technology and information development in education. This research aims to analyze the effects of smartifying the schools on students’ biology learning in the first grade of high school. The method applied is semi-trial with test and control groups. This research uses cluster random sampling among the high schools in Kermanshah. The first grade students of two classes with traditional education system and two classes with smart education system were selected. The sample size included 100 students divided by half into the test and control groups. The independent variable is the smart schools, and the dependent variable is learning. Chapter VIII content of the Biology Course was presented to both groups via traditional and smart methods. The applied tool was researcher-made learning examination, implemented in two phases (pre-test and post-test) on the groups. The results were analyzed via independent t-test in SPSS. The difference between the pre-test and post-test scores for both control and test groups reveals that there’s a significant difference between the two groups; the mean score is higher in the test group.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explain how secondary students can enhance their understanding of descriptive statistics using Modeling Approach and to what extent do students improve their achievement of procedural and conceptual understanding in descriptive statistics using Modeling Instructional Approach. The study was conducted at two secondary schools in urban district in West Oromia Zone, Ethiopia. For comparisons, four grade nine sections with a total of 163 students were selected by purposive sampling technique. Quality Assurance Guide instrument was used to assess students’ models on Model Eliciting Activities (MEA). Standard questions were used for achievement tests on procedural and conceptual understanding of descriptive statistics. The quantitative data of the study was analyzed using descriptive statistics, and independent t-test. The qualitative data of the study was analyzed using thematic and content analyses. The findings of this study are: though students found MEAs cognitively challenging tasks, they constructed different models working in a team collaboratively. The study showed students more likely can enhance their critical understanding of descriptive statistics and gain modeling experiences working on relevant non-routine tasks like MEAs and doing project on their own themes. Also a statistically significant difference was found on conceptual understanding achievement test with medium effect size using Modeling Approach, but no statistical significant difference was found on procedural understanding achievement test except female comparison. The findings of this study suggested students more likely enhanced their understanding of descriptive statistics using Modeling Approach.

Abstract: Due to the paucity of self-regulated learning studies at higher education level in Saudi Arabia, the present study examined the relationshipbetween self-regulated learning and academic achievement of Community College students at King Saud University. The sample of the study was comprised of 356 students attending a preparatory year program. The study used an SRL instrument developed by Purdie et al. (1996) and validated by Ahmad (2007) for the Arab learning context, and academic achievement was measured by students’ scores in the areas of English language skills and mathematics. Results indicatedthat the study instrument was valid and reliable for use in a Saudi university environment. Furthermore, results indicated that there is a significant and positive relationshipbetween self-regulated learningand the academic achievement of students. Similarly, the constructs of SRL (i.e., goal setting and planning, keeping records and monitoring, rehearsal and memorization, and seeking social assistance), especially goal setting and planning, were found to be significantly and positively related to achievement. Additionally, SRL and its constructs, especially goal setting and planning, were found to be significant predictors of academic achievement. The implications and suggestions forfuture research are discussed.

Abstract: This study adopts the descriptive research design to gather information about the implementation of Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) and the prevailing conditions about the teaching of ALIVE in Marawi City, Philippines. A survey was made through questionnaires to assess the implementation of the teaching and the level of effectiveness of the implementation of ALIVE. Findings had shown that there were no sufficient books and learning materials for ALIVE students. Hence, it is also recommended that provision for sufficient updated books and other references for every pupil, making the distribution 1:1ratio be made. Likewise, the data depicted that there is a need to institute reforms on the hiring and in upgrading teacher qualification for them to be truly competent and highly skilled to deliver the goods to intended beneficiaries. Therefore, it is deemed necessary that appointment of qualified and competent ALIVE teachers must be based on merit and fitness. In this vein, there is a need to make the qualifying exam for Arabic language an eligibility to get an employment item. Furthermore, provision of scholarship program for ALIVE teachers should be made available. In the same manner that there is a need for the appointment of competent ALIVE supervisors, consultants or trainers in every district to oversee the program. Lastly as shown from the findings that the ALIVE program was not properly evaluated and monitored. Thus, it is recommended that further study should be conducted to assess the needs of the ALIVE programs and may be an action plan might be proposed to the concerned authority to improve the effective and efficacious implementation of the ALIVE program.

Abstract: We describe a group session specifically designed to experimentally verify the existence of a concept that is frequently used within the constructivist framework. This exercise involved a group of students n = 40. A randomly chosen half of the entire group responded to a questionnaire on arithmetical topics. This 'test' did not provide the respondents with any clue or help. The other half were asked to solve the same problem, but with the assistance of an informative heading printed on the question paper. In the subgroup that did receive help, a 'Zone of Proximal Development' process was observed in ten cases - i.e., an assisted learning process where the respondents took advantage of the problem-solving help.

Abstract: Literature on approaches to teaching grammar favours the inductive approach as a better strategy for building students’ grammatical and communicative skills than the deductive approach. This present study investigated whether pupils who were taught grammar through the inductive approach would do better than those taught through the deductive approach. The design chosen for the study is the quasi experimental placed in a mixed method paradigm. Data were collected from a sample of 99 participants (comprising 27 Junior High School English Language teachers and 72 pupils). Data were collected using class tests and observation. Data was analyzed by the use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings indicate that those who were taken through inductive teaching showed better skills than those who were taken through the deductive method. Finally, it is recommended that teachers of English Language adopt the inductive teaching approach to teach grammar because it helps students to grasp grammar rules easily.

Abstract: In 21st century teacher education programs should capacitate teachers with effective reflective practitioner skills that could help them address students having diverse learning interests, styles and backgrounds. Hence, the purpose of this study was to analyze the perceived importance of Ethiopian teacher education program called postgraduate diploma in teaching (PGDT), particularly summer modality, from student teachers’ point of view. To this study purpose mixed research method was employed. A sample of 108 summer student teachers was selected by using simple random sampling method (lottery system). Questionnaire (having close-ended and open-ended items) was used to collect data. Its validity was checked by senior teacher educators and it was also found to be reliable (α=0.71). The document of student teachers’ grade record was used as source of data. Quantitative data were analyzed by using one sample t-test (two-tailed), frequency and percentage while narrative approach was used to analyze qualitative data. The study found out that student teachers have positive perception on the importance of PGDT program though their academic achievement in many courses is found to be very low. Finally, the need to evaluate effectiveness of postgraduate diploma in teaching (PGDT) program via value-added model was forwarded as a recommendation.

Abstract: The employment quality of Female graduate is an important and ignored problem. The investigation for 252 graduates graduated from five universities of Jiangxi province in China shows that the initial employment quality of male and female are respectively 81.33 and 80.32, male’ score is higher than female. But from the internal structure, the objective employment quality of females is 60.97, which is higher than the male of 60.95. That means female graduate’s employment environment is improved and distinctive institutional discrimination is reduced. At the aspect of subjective employment quality, female score of 19.35 is obviously lower than male’s 20.38. This is because that traditional gender labor division requires female takes more responsibility for family work, so female has more employment requirements and less profession devotion and has to lower evaluation for profession present and future. For that, female graduate should break restriction of traditional custom, strive for self-improvement. Employers and university also should build modern concept to eliminate the sexual discrimination still hidden in female employment and career development.
