Case Exploration of Visualization of Diffusion Mass Transfer at Microscale — Teaching Innovation in Transport Processes

Abstract: "Transport Processes" is a core yet challenging course in chemical engineering, with the primary difficulty lying in its heavy reliance on theoretical mathematical descriptions to elucidate the laws of momentum, heat, and mass transfer. Students often struggle to intuitively understand diffusion mass transfer phenomena at the microscale, leading to rote memorization without constructing a corresponding physical picture. To address this pedagogical challenge, we turn to actual microfluidic experiments rather than simulations or theoretical derivations, and propose two visualization-based teaching cases that enable in-situ observation of diffusion at the microscale. The first case utilizes the one-dimensional diffusion of fluorescent nanoparticles in a microchannel, while the second case involves the diffusion of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gas into a hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) solution, combined with high-speed microscopic imaging and image analysis to determine the diffusion coefficient based on Fick's second law. Both cases transform the theoretical diffusion differential equations into intuitive, dynamic concentration distribution evolution images. Post-teaching questionnaire surveys indicate that 96.30% of the students greatly favored these visualization cases, and the 98.15% of students believed that it improved learning efficiency. More than 90% of the students considered the visualized cases relatively easy to understand. The survey results indicate that introducing microfluidic visualization technology into "Transport Processes" teaching effectively builds a cognitive bridge between mathematical formulations and physical reality, stimulates students' learning interest, reduces the difficulty of conceptual comprehension, and improves lecture atmosphere. This teaching innovation provides a novel perspective for the instruction of the mass transfer module within the "Transport Processes" course.

Abstract: Unlike the existing education related migration literature, this study argues that higher education factors alone may not be the main reasons for Nepalese students’ migration motivation to the UK. Through a rigorous qualitative analysis of thirty-five in-depth interviews with diverse cohorts of Nepalese students in the UK, this study illuminates the multifaceted processes by which educational migration transitions from temporary sojourning experiences into long-term permanent settlement pathways. Grounded on framework of push and pull factors, this study identifies Nepal’s unstable political situation, lack of employment opportunities and unsecured future as the key push factors, while revealing the perceived value of British education, enhanced global employment opportunity and prospects for secured future as the primary pull factors. In addition to this, the study further highlights limited return intention among Nepalese students, instead, the study reveals their deep-seated residential intention in the UK. Thus, on the one hand, this study signals Nepalese students’ migration as a predominantly one-way trajectory, indirectly functioning as a mechanism of one-way trajectory and systemic brain- drain. Simultaneously, the findings underscore the necessity of comprehensive and effective policy intervention designed to mitigate long-term socio-economic consequences linked with such persistent unidirectional migration. Thus, this study offers a necessary re-evaluation of established narratives regarding international students’ migration patterns.

Abstract: Environmental education at the secondary school level is crucial for developing environmentally conscious citizens. This study examines how secondary school education shapes students' environmental attitudes and environmentally friendly behaviors in Chattogram, Bangladesh. A quantitative survey method was used with four research questions (1. What is the level of environmental knowledge among secondary school students? 2. What are the attitudes of secondary school students toward environmental protection? 3. To what extent do secondary school students practice sustainable behavior in their daily lives? 4. How does the school contribute to promoting students’ environmental literacy and sustainable behavior through textbooks, curriculum, teacher support and school activities?) of 130 respondents. Students' environmental knowledge, attitude, environmentally friendly behavior, and perceived support from the school were assessed. The results showed that students had high levels of environmental awareness and positive attitudes toward conservation. However, students engaged in eco-friendly behaviors at a moderate level, indicating a significant gap between knowledge and practice. While schools are seen as strong enablers in providing access to and encouragement of environmental content, current educational systems appear to be more effective in raising awareness than in promoting habitual environmentally friendly behavior. The study concludes that a shift towards experiential, participatory, and action-oriented learning is essential to transform environmental literacy among young students into actual environmentally friendly behavior.

Abstract: Corrective feedback performances as an integral element of language learning since it enable learners to identify and correct their linguistic mistakes through interactions between the teacher and the learner. In the Bangladeshi ELT setting, corrective feedback has a great significance since it comforts develop learners' proficiency, confidence, motivation, and fluency in English language learning process. The current study aims at investigating the importance of corrective feedback in English language learning process and finding out the role played by the hypothetical practice in developing positive backwash effect through good teacher-learner communication. The mixed-method research methodology was adopted in order to meet the research aims and objectives stated above. The quantitative data were collected using questionnaires distributed among tertiary-level English language learners whereas the qualitative data were collected in conducting interviews with faculty members of higher education institutions. In relation to the obtained data, corrective feedback has a positive effect on language proficiency, learners' confidence and motivation and classroom performance of learners. Constructive and systematic use of feedback makes classroom activity effective and efficient by creating the environment, which makes learners more aware of their mistakes and enables them to learn from them and improve their performance. Several challenges of the implementation of corrective feedback were identified during the research such as the issue of the class size and instructional time limitation. All the same, it was proven that feedback has significant importance in the English language learning process.

Abstract: The rapid iteration of artificial intelligence technology continues to promote the digital transformation of higher education and become the core of enabling college teachers to improve their teaching quality and professional growth. As the core subject of higher education, teachers’ digital literacy and intelligent teaching ability directly determine the effectiveness of digital education reform and the quality of talent training. At present, although the development of AI-enabled teachers in domestic universities has achieved initial results, the gradual popularization of intelligent teaching tools and the continuous improvement of teachers’ digital participation, there are still many outstanding problems in practice: teachers’ cognition of AI technology is polarized, and there are double misunderstandings of technology worship and technology fear; the application of AI technology is seriously out of touch with subject teaching and teachers’ professional growth, and man-machine collaborative teaching is a mere formality. At the same time, risks such as data leakage, academic anomie, and lack of digital ethics have become increasingly prominent, which seriously restricts the effectiveness of AI empowerment. In order to solve the above-mentioned difficulties and promote the deep integration of technology and education, this paper systematically combs the current situation and core pain points of AI-enabled university teachers’ development based on the four theories of educational digitization, teacher professional development stage, TPACK and human-machine collaboration. The study found that insufficient technical adaptation, lack of hierarchical training, lack of institutional guarantee, and imbalance of human-computer education are the key cruxes that hinder the improvement of teachers’ digital ability. Based on this, the research constructs a comprehensive optimization development path from four dimensions: subject adaptation technology upgrading, hierarchical progressive AI cultivation, systematic institutional guarantee, and humanistic human-machine collaboration. The purpose of this study is to break the practical barriers of AI empowerment, reshape the man-machine collaborative education mode, balance the value of technical tools and the humanistic value of education, and provide theoretical reference and practical reference for colleges and universities to promote the construction of teachers’ digital ability and realize the high-quality development of teaching in the new era.

Abstract: In response to the prevalent issues of one-dimensional teaching evaluation, delayed performance feedback, and a notable disconnect between academic instruction and industrial requirements in higher education, this study proposes and validates a diversified intelligent evaluation system. The system is constructed by integrating the CDIO (Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate) engineering education framework with the principles of emotional education, operationalized within the XuetangX online learning platform. The proposed evaluation model encompasses three core dimensions: knowledge acquisition, practical competency, and emotional literacy, aiming to provide a holistic assessment of student development. The effectiveness of this system was empirically tested through a semester-long case study implementation in the "New Media Marketing" course at Beijing Union University. The research findings demonstrate that the system effectively captures multidimensional student performance. Specifically, it accurately diagnosed students' conceptual mastery through AI-assisted quizzes, generated detailed competency profiles that highlighted strengths and weaknesses in operational, technical, and managerial skills, and successfully tracked observable emotional growth indicators such as curiosity, persistence, and self-confidence. The results indicate a balanced improvement across competency indicators and a positive trend in emotional outcomes, validating the system's capacity to support comprehensive formative assessment. However, the study also revealed a significant challenge: despite the availability of AI tools, over two-thirds of the students demonstrated low engagement, suggesting that the presence of technological resources alone does not guarantee active utilization. This underscores the need for future iterations to incorporate participation incentives to enhance student involvement. Overall, this research provides a practical and theoretical reference for reforming evaluation systems in industry-education integrated courses. It demonstrates that an intelligent, data-driven approach encompassing cognitive, skill-based, and affective domains can offer richer, more actionable feedback, thereby fostering improved teaching practices and student learning outcomes in digitally enhanced educational environments.
